About University Park

Now a residential area of tree-lined streets and beautiful parks, University Park earned its name by being located next to Southern Methodist University, and many of the original homes were built for professors and staff. Homeowners once paid the university for water and sewer lines, but as more homes were built, the school could no longer support them. University Park and its 3.7 square miles became its own city in 1924 after Dallas refused to incorporate it.
