Though it has only been opened less than a year, Haute Sweets is already shaping up to be one of the city's hottest bakeries. Which is especially surprising since the place is located in an off-the-beaten-track shopping strip near White Rock Lake in East Dallas. But while the shop may be new, its owners, Gianni Santin and Tida Pichakron– are not. The pair had previously built up a following for their macarons and other show-stopping confections through a catering business that they operated out of a storefront in Trinity Groves. In addition to macarons, in flavors ranging from passion fruit caramel to Earl Grey and banana hazelnut, gluten-free foodies can dig into miniature sponge cakes in flavors like lemon raspberry or Bailey's almond cream; almond frangipane tarts, molten cakes and chocolate pot de crèmes. While you're there, check out the gluten-and-dairy-free paleo almond butter brownies, they're out of this world.

- Bakeries: "Keep an eye out for Haute Sweets' monthly coffee and beignets party (featuring coffee by Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters and traditional New Orleans beignets with candied bacon) The event usually takes place on the 3rd Saturday of the month– from 10 a.m. on, until they sell out."
