About River Walk
The River Walk, which most people identify with downtown San Antonio, has recently expanded both south and north of downtown. You will definitely want to take advantage of the excellent food, shopping and nightlife downtown, but be sure to head north or south for a leisurely walk or bike ride.
See & Do
What better way to learn about and enjoy San Antonio's River walk than on a riverboat tour! For under 10 bucks you get to see the sites while cruising up and down the river for 35-minute. Rio San Antonio Cruises has several ticket locations along the river. You can also check out their site for specific directions.
Eat
Most people expect to only find Tex-Mex when visiting San Antonio, particularly on the River Walk. Not true! Some of San Antonio's most seasoned and excellent Chefs reside on the river walk and we know you wouldn't want to miss out. Some of the best include Gwendolyn Restaurant (local, organic American food), Q (International barbecue) and Bella on the River (Mediterranean), but there's many others to choose from. Enjoy!
Party
One thing San Antonio knows how to do is party and there's no better place to find a good party than downtown on the River walk. The entire river is peppered with fantastic live music, bars and clubs. Durty Nellie's Irish Pub is perfect for a romping good time as is Howl at the Moon. If you're thinking something a little more sophisticated then check out Swig Martini Bar or Zinc.
Stay
There are an endless number of fabulous River walk hotels to choose from. The hard part is deciding which one better suits your individual style. Many love the historic Menger, known for its ghosts, but you can't go wrong with the luxurious Hotel Contessa or Las Canarias. If you want big and beautiful, check out one of San Antonio's newest hotels, The Grand Hyatt.
Shop
The River walk is full of all sorts of shopping opportunities, particularly those with a Mexican flair! You can find Mexican blankets and authentic dresses and other clothing, piñatas, artwork, clay kitchenware, sculptures and all sorts of interesting and unusual items you're not likely to find anywhere else except for, well, Mexico. Of course, your best shopping experience is to be found at the Rivercenter Mall!
