Beach bars a dime are a dozen in St. Thomas, but the new beachside hangout at the Elysian is a standout in a crowded field.

With a location literally steps from the sand, understated decor, and a diverse, enticing menu, Sangria's Beachside Bistro hits all the marks for a perfect evening of food and fun.

It comes in three different varieties, including Berry Peachy, Island Easy Breezy, and Tropic Big Red. You can also order a "Sangrita," which is a combination of a margarita and sangria. Other original inventions include the Elysian Mary (Sangria's version of a Bloody Mary), the Jungleosa, and the Tropical Crush. The drinks menu of course includes all the standard island favorites like the Bailey's Bushwhacker, the Painkiller, daiquiris, mojitos, mocktails, frozen coffee drinks, beers and wines.

The evening menu features Mediterranean cuisine and American classics with a fresh Caribbean flair. Stone oven pizza is the house specialty, and selections range from the "Black and Blue" (marinated steak, portobello mushrooms, and blue cheese, topped with arugula) to "The Big Greek" (seasoned lamb or chicken, black olives, pepperoncini, spinach, red onion and feta). There is an extensive appetizer and salad menu, and a sandwich menu which runs to gyros, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, and curry mango chicken salad.

The menu includes build-your-own omelets, four types of eggs Benedict, four types of breakfast burrito, banana pancakes, and Texas French toast.

Sangria's is open for breakfast from 7am to 11am, lunch from 11am to 4pm, and dinner from 4pm to 9pm. The bar is open until 10pm.
