Plum and Spilt Milk and the bar at the Great Northern Hotel (GNH Bar) is a new opening this year, and as yet an undiscovered treasure. But go quickly before everyone realises what beauty and slick cool this place is. The PR write up tells us that the GNH was actually the first boutique hotel, opened originally in 1854. It is now part of the new Kings Cross development and has made this part of London newly interesting and a great place to hang out. The building and the hotel has been brilliantly redesigned to echo the glamour of its past and the restaurant and bar follow suite. As is the fashion now, Mark Sargeant has created a delicious menu based on British ingredients and tastes, red mullet with braised fennel or saltmarsh lamb anyone? and you can eat or drink here anytime from dawn to midnight, the restaurant turns out breakfast brunch, lunch, dinner and great bar snacks. This is sophisticated but relaxed and brilliantly executed. Dark furnishings, glittering glass and large windows complete the picture, you will be spoilt and comfortable at the same time.
