Not to be confused with the Forth Road Bridge, this massive railroad bridge is over 100 years old; it was first opened in 1890. Its stately presence and impressive age and engineering have caused it to become a well-known landmark of Scotland. It's situated a few miles outside Edinburgh and it spans the Firth of Forth and takes you north into Fife. It took seven years to build and many men died in its construction. There's an apocryphal tale that the painter who repaints the bridge has to start again immediately when he finishes at one end. It may not be true, but the bridge does require a lot of maintenance.
