About Edinburgh Shopping
Edinburgh is a great place to go shopping. To get the best out of your retail adventure you should choose the right location depending on whether you are looking for a gift for a friend, a gourmet treat for yourself, new clothes or souvenirs of your trip.
City center shopping is centered on Princes Street where you will find most of the large chain stores. For designer clothing stores George Street (running parallel to Princes Street) is a great place to start. Smaller boutique stores can be found in Stockbridge, the New Town and along the Royal Mile and alternative clothing stores in Tollcross and Newington. The grassmarket has some wonderful second hand and retro clothing stores.
There are gourmet food shops throughout the city, but the best are in the Old Town and Stockbridge. Stockbridge is also a great place to hunt for a more unique gift, and is home to an excellent Sunday Market.
The Royal Mile is home to a wide variety of souvenir shops (although they can be rather kitsch) and numerous shops selling beautiful Celtic silver. For high end jewelry head to George Street and the West End.
