When Linnea Gallo and her Italian-born husband Massimo recently took over the former A Caprice Kitchen space in Ballard, the first thing they did was change the clunky name. Now it's a clucky name, and the Fat Hen has a new décor and menu, to boot. Kitschy minimalism is the theme of the place, but the menu is serious food, mostly the result of Massimo's upbringing in Italy. One standout is the eggs in carrozza, eggs Benedict with prosciutto, catto, and scamorza in hollandaise on a house-made English muffin. Currently open for breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch, the restaurant is ramping up for dinner service with a single night, Fridays, to start.
