10 Best: Avery's Raucous and Refreshing Rumpkin Pumpkin Ale

Boulder's Avery Brewing Company serves up the most scrumptious pumpkin ale this holiday season.

One of 10 Best's absolute favorite Boulder breweries, Avery Brewing Company brings you a sweet treat this holiday season: their Rumpkin Pumpkin Ale. But before we pour you a tall glass, let us give you the low-down on one of the best spots in Boulder – and Colorado for that matter – the Avery Taproom. A local favorite, this cozy, quaint and energetic taproom invites you to sit at a gorgeous, copper top bar behind which Avery's signature beers on tap are proudly displayed for your perusal. Exceptional service is guaranteed, as both their bartenders and servers are well-acquainted with the beers they are slinging. We suspect they may do some extracurricular tasting – all for the sake of suggestion and describing the perfect beer just for you.

Now, on to the Rumpkin! For you to get the full effect of this delicious brew, we'll allow Avery to briefly describe the evolution of this monstrously good beer:

"We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger."

This ale is in limited supply, so get it while you can. We highly recommend bringing it as a Thanksgiving contribution for pot-luck events, as a gift to your beer-loving friends and family for Christmas or as an addition to your own beer collection. When paired with seasonal delights, such as honey-roasted ham, rosemary mashed potatoes or deep-fried turkey, this ale will accentuate the natural juices and flavors of most any holiday meal.
