Kids feel grown-up when ordering their own special drink
Is it any wonder that two of the most wholesome, well-loved symbols of family entertainment would have a children's drink named after them? Before the phrase "American icon" was popular, Shirley Temple and Roy Rogers were the epitome of it.
Born in 1928, Shirley Temple, at the ripe old age of 4 already had a glowing film career. With her curly top hair and dimples, she was the biggest child star in history and truly America's sweetheart. Story has it that she accompanied her parents to the Beverly Hills restaurant Chasen's, where after seeing her parents order a cocktail, she desired to have a fancy drink too. The bartender concocted for her the nonalcoholic drink that became known as the "Shirley Temple."

Born in 1911, it wouldn't be until sometime later, in the 1940's and 50's that Roy Rogers would gain major prominence, in radio, TV and film. It was every boy's dream to emulate this #1 western movie star, known as the "King of the Cowboys." During this era, it was only fitting that young boys were able to order the male version of the girly "mocktail," and thus the Roy Rogers drink was born.

To this day, kids can continue to feel grownup in adult settings when given the opportunity to place their drink order. It's the cherry garnish that makes it so special. And even though the youth of today and tomorrow may never know the words to "Good Ship Lollipop" or "Happy Trails," Shirley and Roy's legend lives on.
