Referred to simply as "The ’Bu" by locals, Malibu boasts some of the most magnificent coastlines of the Pacific Ocean. The sandy backyard of the rich and famous, A-list celebrities who have set up permanent or secondary residence in Malibu include Courtney Cox, Stephen Dorff, and Goldie Hawn, among others. Mel Gibson’s infamous rant and arrest took place outside of popular neighborhood haunt Moonshadows, selected by Travel Channel as the “sexiest beach restaurant and bar in the world.”

People watching doesn’t get any better than at Duke’s Restaurant, a joint that sits right on the ocean. Check out Duke’s Aloha Hour every Monday through Friday from 4pm-6pm, offering discount on food and beverages. Every night is a party, whether its Taco Tuesdays or Mai Tai Madness on Fridays. You may even spot a whale or two on your visit!

Eager to hang ten and get your surf on? Check out some surfing schools like Mailbu Surf Shack where you can take lessons, or even rent paddleboards and kayaks. Speaking from personal experience, Islands Surf Camp offers incredible group lessons for reasonable prices for even the most beginner of waveriders.

Many a driving scene has been captured on film chronicling the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway: wind in the hair, breathtaking views and dramatic rocky cliffs. Venture just a couple miles north of Malibu to encounter Point Dume, one of my favorite beaches, unsullied by a bustling boardwalk or too many people. Make like a celeb, sport your oversized shades and floppy hat, and you'll be dodging the paparazzi flash bulbs like a pro in no time!
