The National Cherry Blossom Festival offers free family events not to mention that most of the city's major attractions are free including the National Mall, National Zoo and Smithsonian Museums. It's a fantastic opportunity to bring text book learning to life especially for those who are within road trip distance.

Teens especially will love a week in the jungle where it's possible to do everything from learn how to surf to ziplining. Explore coffee plantations and even hike the Arenal volcano. Playa Tamarindo is a popular beach town where accommodations range from luxury to budget rentals though it is popular with the 20s scene, especially at night. The further away from Playa Tamarindo you go, the less expensive your beach vacation becomes.

Yes, Las Vegas can be kid-friendly and even budget friendly during the week. Buffets add cost predictability to meals while stuffing everyone full but there are plenty of spots to grab a quick and cheap bite to eat. Outside of gaming, the Neon Boneyard Museum is fun for steady walkers and parents, roller coasters thrill teens and younger kids enjoy animal-themed adventures such as Shark Reef Aquarium... if you can tear them away from the hotel pool.

Spring break airfare is rarely a bargain but to avoid too much inflation, fly mid-week especially on a Tuesday. This goes without saying, but family spring breakers will want to avoid Panama City and like destinations that will be chock full of partying college students.
