You can be picked up by a carriage at the St. Francis Inn — Photo courtesy of St. Francis InnThe St. Francis Inn is a romantic home base from which to explore historic St. Augustine, Florida.

Located within the city's amazing Olde Town district, which dates back several hundred years, the secluded St. Francis is tucked beneath massive oak trees.  Its exterior speaks of the city's century's-old history, as do the clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages which pick up guests for a ride through time.   Because the inn is situated within a neighborhood, evening strolls come naturally to mind - if you haven't worn yourself out during the day, exploring on foot one of America's most lovely small cities.

Veranda at the St. Francis — Photo courtesy of St. Francis InnThe second floor of the hotel has a small veranda which overlooks the patio.  Rooms are large and filled with antiques and tasteful period decor, yet all the modern conveniences are in place - a wonderful contrast that's not lost on guests.   Many of the rooms have fireplaces, a huge treat in winter months.  Nothing is as wonderful as a brisk stroll through the historic olde town, then coming back to a warm fire and a little wine.  The inn's beds are comfortable - so important, yes? - and each morning a delicious breakfast is served in the inn's cheery dining room.  Tea drinkers will be wowed by their choices and the tea service.

Cozy interiors set the stage for romance — Photo courtesy of St. Francis InnSt. Augustine bills itself as the oldest city in the United States.  With a sublime waterfront setting, narrow cobblestone streets to explore, and dozens of interesting restaurants and nightlife options, it's a superb pick for a romantic vacation.  Plan on a leisurely-paced discovery . . . of a past, a city, and each other.
