Family Dining Aboard Tivoli's Pirate Ship

With 45 restaurants to choose from in Tivoli Gardens, visitors are spoiled for choice. One eatery that stands out is Pirateriet, the latest incarnation of the Frigate Sct Georg 3 in Tivoli Lake. This family-friendly restaurant serves Caribbean-themed meals with a pirate theme, and while it manages to entertain the kids, surroundings are sufficiently comfortable and the menu varied enough to keep grown-ups happy, too.

Frigate Sct Georg 3 is the latest in a line of boats to be moored on Tivoli’s lake, and is a copy of a 17th-century frigate. It’s possible to dine both up on deck and inside the ship, with the indoor tables tending to get filled quickly – we advise coming early or making a reservation.

With a menu of appropriately mutinous-titled dishes – most of them better known as steaks, shrimp on skewers, chicken nuggets and burgers – salads and sauces add a dash of Caribbean spice for those that like it hot. Everything comes in attractive plates and bowls, with plenty of fun finger food in the way of veggies and flatbread.

In addition to a gang of waiting staff in full pirate gear, kids can enjoy a trunk of dressing-up clothes, color-in placemats and accompanying crayons, and the obligatory gold coin as a parting gift.
