They say a picture speaks a thousand words, and while a snapshot of the snow-covered mountains around Banff and Lake Louise are breathtakingly beautiful, it simply can't beat the real thing. Whether it's your first time hitting the slopes, or you're a seasoned ski junkie, skiing in Banff is a must-do and you will find a run that will suit your skill level.

After a half hour drive from Banff, you will find yourself at Sunshine Village. This resort has one of the longest ski seasons in the the area and is covered with all-natural snow. Three mountains are home to 103 different runs and 12 ski lifts to get you where you need to go. Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park was home to the 1988 Winter Olympics, so if the 40 miles of ski runs were good enough for Olympic athletes, they're good enough for us! If you're looking for perfectly manicured beginner and intermediate runs, Mount Norquay is just a 15 minute ride from Banff and your hotel may even offer a shuttle service. Last but not least, Lake Louise Ski Resort is about an hour away from Banff and is one of the largest ski resorts in Canada. You're bound to find a run on the 4200 skiable acres that challenges you just the right amount according to your skill, while offering spectacular views as you descend the mountain. They've also made sure that there is a green run down from every chair lift, so no worrying that you've taken a bigger bite than you can chew.

Banff's quaint and village like feel sets the tone for this skiing destination and has a number of decadent restaurants and cafes to give you the sustenance you need for a day of skiing. When night falls, you will want a comfortable and convenient hotel and there are plenty of those in Banff.
What's better than a day on the hill? A day on the hill, followed by a soothing soak in the Upper Hot Springs that are warm all year long. And, perhaps a little apres ski action.
