The old fashioned is the most classic of all the classic cocktails. It's simple, yet perfect: whiskey, sugar, bitters, ice. And while there's a part of us that wants to say "If it a'int broke, don't fix it," we're also believers of using a perfect cocktail as a base for experimentation and innovation.
And – except for maybe the Negroni – there is perhaps no better drink for tinkering than the old fashioned. This version replaces whiskey with gin, swaps simple syrup for maple, and adds some vermouth and orange bitters. The result is a refreshing cocktail that's an instant classic.
