This year, two of America's favorite day-drinking holidays – Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby – fall on the same day, leaving stateside partiers asking themselves questions like, "But which do I celebrate?" "Should I wear a sombrero or one of those big floppy hats?" "Do I drink margaritas or mint juleps?"
And here are some answers, respectively: Celebrate both. If you're gonna wear a hat, wear the big floppy one (please just never wear a sombrero. Under any circumstances). Drink neither.
Skip the julep, and instead of a traditional margarita, drink this rose water margarita instead. It's got all the cornerstones of a classic marg – tequila, Cointreau, lime – while adding all the springtime classiness of the Kentucky Derby: grapefruit juice, rose water, champagne.
As an added bonus, the cocktail's pink color and rose-bud garnish will match that pastel outfit you've been waiting since April to wear.
