Elevate your Moscow mule with pineapple and cilantro

For the last few years, the Moscow mule has been having a bit of a moment. The drink was originally created in 1941 when an enterprising bartender who had ordered too much ginger beer decided to mix it with vodka – another drink that was hard to sell back then – and the result was a drink that he couldn't keep in stock.

The mix of spicy ginger beer and vodka is one of the easiest and most refreshing cocktails you can make. But with a little more effort you can take this simple drink to the next level.

Via Karley Gomez of A Simple Pantry, here's one of our favorite ways to the make the mule even more refreshing – with pineapple and cilantro. Just make sure to drink it out of its iconic copper mug.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vodka
  • 3 cups pineapple Juice
  • 4 cups ginger beer
  • 3 cups chopped pineapple
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 lime

Preparation

  1. In a pitcher, add the chopped pineapple and cilantro.
  2. Cut the lime in half and squeeze it into the pitcher, then drop the lime rinds into the pitcher.
  3. Slowly stir in the pineapple juice, followed by the ginger beer and vodka.
  4. Pour over ice into copper mugs and enjoy!
