Blood oranges are most famous for their ruby red color, but they're also a great source of antioxidants, and – big bonus – they're extra sweet. Unfortunately, they're only available about half of the year – from December through May – which means you've got about two weeks to make blood orange margaritas.
Freshly squeezed blood orange juice will add a touch of natural sweetness to your margarita and give it that signature ruby hue.
If you can't find blood oranges, fear not. You can always use regular freshly squeezed orange juice (you know, the kind from orange oranges) for a drink that's halfway between a margarita and a Tequila Sunrise.
Ingredients
- 1 oz. Cointreau
- 2 oz. blanco tequila
- 1 oz. lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 2 oz. blood orange juice, freshly squeezed
Preparation
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.
- Shake and strain over ice in rocks glass.
- Garnish with Himalayan sea salt or regular salt.
