The hot toddy is a classic winter drink. It hits on all fronts: It warms with hot tea, it packs a punch with a healthy dose of booze, and it soothes everything from the throat to the chest with its mixture of lemon, honey, and tea.
While a traditional toddy uses whiskey, bartenders these days have gotten inventive with new spins on the old-school remedy for common colds and the winter blues.
This version (courtesy of The Botanist Gin) calls for gin instead of whiskey, as well as adding Cointreau, bitters and two kinds of tea – lemon ginger and Earl Grey. The result is something that's both soothing, and citrusy and refreshing.

- 1.5 oz gin
- .5 oz. Cointreau
- 1 bag lemon ginger tea
- 1 bag Earl Grey tea
- .5 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 dash bitters
- For garnish Orange wheel
- In tea cup, combine all ingredients and fill with boiling water
- Stir and wait until temperature is drinkable and tea has steeped
- Remove tea bag
- Garnish with orange wheel
