2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the famous Doral Golf Resort in Miami. Home of the PGA Tour's Cadillac Championship every March, Doral has long been a staple of the Florida golf resort scene. Big changes are afoot for both the resort and the five golf courses in the next year as the Trump organization bought the property and has committed to spending upwards of $200 million on renovations.

The Cadillac is played on the famous TPC Blue Monster course, featuring its signature 18th hole that gives the course its name. Every year, the 18th ranks as one of the toughest finishing holes on the PGA Tour. The resort also features four other courses of varying difficulty, including the Great White course designed by Greg Norman, the Gold course that has been recently redesigned by Ray Floyd, the Jim McLean Signature course, and the Red course. The courses at Doral are the ideal adventure for both the golfer who likes variety and the die-hard that wants to get 36 holes per day.

The resort promises no interruption in services during the renovation, but there are nearby options if you would rather not stay at a construction site. The Hyatt Miami at the Blue is still on the Doral property, yet separates itself with 17 acres of boutique luxury. The large pool is perfect for sunbathing while its signature restaurant, the 5300 Chophouse and Lounge, was established by a celebrity chef.

Doral was already one of the premier golf destinations in the country. With these new improvements, it should now be ranked among the very best.
