Getting a visa is the worst. It's not so much the extra cost it adds to your trip or the fact that it takes up a page in your passport (alright, we actually kind of like that part). It's the taking the morning off work to go to the embassy, the waiting in line, the filling out paperwork, the praying that you get your passport back in time.
And that is if you actually remember (or plan in advance) to apply in time to avoid paying the exorbitant fees to expedite your visa. Even worse is forgetting to apply altogether and winding up distraught at the airport, unable to board your plane.
Luckily, Americans have to deal with the whole visa issue way less than most countries, as we can enter 174 countries and territories sans visa (we're counting visa-on-arrivals and e-visas here, because they're like the equivalent of doing your Black Friday shopping on Amazon instead of going to Best Buy to fight over a TV set with That Crazy Mom).
