Every October since 1991, Luxembourg City has played host to the stars of women's tennis during the annual BGL Luxembourg Open. In 2009, the Women's Tennis Association added the event to the International Series calendar as the final international tournament of the year before the Sofia Tournament of Champions in Luxembourg City. Jennifer Capriati, Elena Dementieva, Ana Ivanovic, Mary Pierce, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka and, most recently, Venus Williams have claimed past titles.

This year's tournament, one of the most important sporting events in Luxembourg, will take place from October 14-20 at the CK Sports Center Kockelscheuer. Sixty-four athletes will compete in the only indoor International Series tournament with an expected attendance of more than 20,000 spectators. If you can't make it to Luxembourg, the tournament action will be televised on ESPN.
Tennis fans would be hard pressed to find a more picturesque and fascinating city to visit for a tournament. Luxembourg City, considered by the Mercer Index to be the safest city in the world, is surrounded by protected woodlands and world-class golf courses and the Ardennes mountain range close at hand, so you'll have plenty to do between matches.
