Well, this might be one of the most extreme marketing tactics we’ve ever heard of. A camper-van rental company named Wicked Campers, based in Australia, is offering a discount for pot smokers, and is completely unapologetic about doing so.
When booking a camper-van online, a user is asked “Smoke Pot?” and if their answer is yes, they’re offered an extra day . . . for free! The offer is “only valid for committed stoners.”

Naturally, there’s an outcry from the public. Australian traffic police have accused the adverts of being “highly negligent” as weed slows down reaction times and “distorts perceptions of speed and distance.” However, Wicked Campers owner, John Webb, says the deal does not promote driving under the influence. (We tend to think the website’s text that says “Don’t drive drunk, smoke pot and fly!” might be pushing it, though.)
On the other hand, we’re a little impressed by how Webb has stuck to his guns over the whole ordeal. Even facing tough criticism, he's responded with “I don’t take things too seriously.”
He also hands out discounts to people who say they’re gay. Very noble of him, although the issue isn’t exactly the same. After all, research has shown that people with weed in their system are just as impaired as someone who has a .05+ blood-alcohol concentration.
Nevertheless, Webb has earned some loyal fans in the weed community, and enemies elsewhere.
What do you think? Is this harmless fun, or is Webb seriously asking for trouble?
